Job Duties

Essential Duties:

  • Perform a variety of custodial tasks to maintain the Bonnie Dallas Senior Center facilities.
  • Work under the supervision of the Adult Programs Manager.
  • Use excellent customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the public.
  • Operate a motor vehicle for departmental and city business.
  • Collaborate harmoniously with co-workers and volunteers.
  • Perform tasks independently or as part of a team.
  • Clean and maintain all interior and exterior senior center facilities.
  • Sanitize surfaces used by patrons and staff.
  • Move and set up tables and chairs for various activities.
  • Handle janitorial duties, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing floors, removing trash, dusting equipment, furniture, and fixtures, and cleaning restrooms, dining rooms, kitchenettes, meeting rooms, offices, and other areas.
  • Perform simple maintenance tasks like changing light bulbs and replacing faucet washers.
  • Order and stock cleaning supplies.
  • Receive and verify incoming shipments and unload trucks.
  • Work a varied schedule, including weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Attendance at work is essential.

Non-Essential Duties:

  • Assist with food preparation, service, and kitchen clean-up as needed.
  • Help procure supplies for ongoing classes and functions.
  • Support other senior activities within and outside the Senior Center campus.


  • Subject to the City’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program, including various types of testing.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record for the past three years.
  • Thorough knowledge of custodial procedures and operations.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and compounds.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment like floor strippers, carpet shampooers, burnishers, and vacuum cleaners.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple projects and establish priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, especially with senior citizens.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in geriatric recreational activities is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other city personnel, and the public.
  • Ability to operate the required tools and equipment.

Tools and Equipment Used

  • Floor stripper, carpet shampooer, burnisher, vacuum cleaners, and other cleaning equipment.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally required to sit and talk or hear.
