As a Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE), you will have the opportunity to play a key role in improving patient and staff safety within the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health). In this position, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive forensic nursing care to patients under the supervision of the FNE Coordinator delegate.
As a valued member of the Island Health team, you will be expected to continuously improve the quality and safety of the care you provide, in line with the organization’s vision, purpose, and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive forensic nursing care to patients.
- Demonstrate therapeutic interviewing and communication skills.
- Demonstrate applied principles of ethical nursing practice.
- Organize and prioritize patient care.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Collaborate with a variety of professionals from the health and legal professions.
- Operate job-related equipment.
- Perform the physical duties of the position.
- Travel to various locations as required.
Qualifications:
- Registered with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
- Two (2) years of recent nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Eligible for completion of a recognized Sexual Assault/Forensic Nurse Examiner program and any required course prerequisites.
- Valid BC Driver’s License.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of legislation applicable to forensic nursing.
- Ability and motivation to demonstrate self-directed learning.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to collaborate with a variety of professionals from the health and legal professions.
- Ability to perform the physical duties of the position.
